August 2017 marked the beginning of the Hospital Welfare and Muslim Educational Movement’s (HWMEM) 75th Anniversary. This is a significant milestone and achievement in the history of the organization and to commemorate this milestone a series of events and activities are planned from April 2018 into 2019. These events will be communicated to the community through various media platforms.

Some Words About Our Organisation
The Hospital Welfare and Muslim Educational Movement (HWMEM) was established in August 1942 when a group of individuals came together to ensure that the dietary needs of Muslim sailors admitted to Somerset Hospital were satisfied. Since then, the HWMEM has travelled a long and Apartheid obstacle laden road to prominence and success by serving people irrespective of race, creed or gender with fortitude and consistency.

Latest News
Bursary distributions
In total just over two million rands will have been disbursed this year 2017. The disbursements are for 186 students covering a broad spectrum of institutions. These are UCT, UWC, CPUT, Stellenbosch and other smaller institutions.
Hospital Visitations
All visitations have been completed with no issues found for the month of November 2017. Halaal certificates are being prepared for the 2018 year.
